Vol. 238 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hospital Patients Maintenance.

62.

asked the Minister for Health the average cost per day for maintenance of patients in (a) county hospitals and (b) extern hospitals.

The average daily cost per in-patient treated in county hospitals in the latest year for which final accounts are available was £3 7s 7d. The corresponding cost in voluntary general teaching hospitals was £5 3s 9d and in voluntary nonteaching general hospitals £3 11s 5d. The figures for county hospitals relate to the year ended 31st March, 1968 and those for voluntary hospitals to the year ended 31st December, 1967.

The accounts from which these figures are derived include the cost of the out-patient departments which, in the voluntary hospitals, would be more significant than in the county hospitals.
