Vol. 238 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Carriage of Fresh Fish.

9.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he will allow the carriage of fresh fish from the port of Killybegs, County Donegal, to Dublin by private hauliers.

Under the provisions of the Road Transport Acts carriage of merchandise for reward is confined to the holders of merchandise licences. The issue of new merchandise licences is also severely restricted by the Acts. There have been temporary transport difficulties previously at Killybegs due to unusually heavy landings of fish there but these were solved with the co-operation of CIE and County Donegal Railways. If any new difficulties have arisen the matter should be taken up with these companies.
