Vol. 238 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Policing of Donabate-Portrane (Dublin) Area.

53.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider setting up a one-man Garda station in Donabate, County Dublin to serve the Portrane and Donabate area.

54.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider the provision of a Garda patrol unit for the Portrane and Donabate areas of County Dublin from the 1st June to the last day of September every year.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 53 and 54 together.

I have accepted the advice of the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána that a one-man Garda station is not required in Donabate. The matter will, however, be kept under review.

The Commissioner has assured me that he will arrange for the adequate policing of the Donabate-Portrane area during the summer months.

I asked the Minister to make arrangements to have the area patrolled from 1st June each year instead of from some time in July to 1st August. The period should be extended from 1st June to the last week in September. The nearest Garda station is at Lusk, five miles away. One would have to send up a flare to get a Garda patrol.

There is a car allocated to Lusk from 19th June to 14th August. I will put the suggestion that it be extended backwards by three weeks.
