Vol. 238 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

11.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the reason for the long delay in installing electricity in the Swords and Malahide rural areas of County Dublin.

I am informed by the ESB that they are not aware of any abnormally long delay in the installation of electricity in the Swords and Malahide rural areas of County Dublin. If, however, the Deputy has some particular case in mind the Board will have it investigated on receipt of the necessary details.

I should like to ask the Parliamentary Secretary how he got such information from the Board because the Board wrote to me today to say that further to a letter which I sent them on October 11th——

It is not in order to quote letters.

I am not quoting. I got a letter from the Board saying that a man in Swords would be supplied with electricity within the next few months. The few months have gone by and this is the middle of March; now I get a letter to say the man will be supplied within the next few months. This is a farmer——

We cannot have a debate on this particular question.

——and he wants electricity to put in milking machines.

My information is that the normal interval between application and connection in the Swords/Malahide area is three months. As I said in my reply, if the Deputy has some particular case in mind the Board will certainly have it investigated.
