Vol. 238 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Posts.

5.

asked the Taoiseach the number of permanent and temporary posts advertised for local authorities by the Local Appointments Commission during the past 12 months for (a) engineering and (b) medical appointments; and the number of these posts which have been filled.

Temporary posts are not advertised by the Local Appointments Commission: they are filled by the local authorities themselves.

During the twelve months ended the 31st December, 1968, the Local Appointments Commission advertised 55 posts for engineers and 75 medical posts. Candidates were recommended for appointment by the Commissioners in the case of 25 of the engineering posts and 34 of the medical posts. Candidates are at present under consideration for a further 15 engineering appointments and 17 medical appointments.

Of the remaining cases, arrangements for the selection of candidates for 13 engineering posts and 15 medical posts are proceeding, but in regard to two engineering and nine medical posts for which there are no candidates available as a result of the original advertisements, the posts will be re-advertised.

The Commission have been notified of the filling of 23 of the engineering posts and 18 of the medical posts mentioned.
