Mr. P. Hogan

(South Tipperary) and Mr. Coogan asked the Minister for Education if he will state for the past five years the number of students admitted to UCD, UCC, UCG and TCD, giving in each case the number of non-nationals admitted.

The reply is in the form of a tabular statement which with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report.

andMr. Wyse asked the Minister for Education (a) the number of non-nationals male and female attending Irish universities at present, (b) the cost to the State per student per annum and (c) the over-all cost per annum.

The information is as follows:

(a) the total numbers of foreign students in the University Colleges, UCD, UCC, UCG and TCD in 1968/69 were male: 905; female: 379;

(b) the average cost per student to the State in 1967/68 in respect of all students in these colleges was £254;

(c) the total of the State grants to these colleges in 1967/68 was £4,052,540.
