Vol. 238 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Residents in Homes for Elderly.

82.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state, as a percentage of the total, the number of persons of over 60 years of age who are resident in homes for the elderly.

Information compiled regarding the number of persons resident in homes for the aged is limited to persons 65 years and over. The most recent available figures show that there were about 12,500 persons, or about four per cent of the population aged 65 years and over, resident in county homes, district hospitals and voluntary and private homes for the aged.
