22.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state in respect of each of the last three years the number of young persons committed (a) to Saint Patrick's Institution and (b) to prisons in the age groups of (i) under 17 years, (ii) 17 to 18 years, (iii) 18 to 19 years, (iv) 19 to 20 years and (v) 20 to 21 years, giving a breakdown as between males and females.

The answer to the Deputy's question is in the form of a tabular statement which, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, will be circulated with the Official Report.

1. The above figures relate to persons committed under sentence.

2. The figures for committals to prisons include 6 persons subsequently transferred to St. Patrick's (5 in 1966 and one in 1968).
