Vol. 239 No. 2

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Shipping Vessels.

6.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power the number of vessels and their gross tonnage owned by Irish Shipping Limited; if it is proposed to purchase new vessels; and, if so, from what company.

Irish Shipping Ltd own ten vessels with a total gross tonnage of 97,455. The company have on order two vessels of about 18,500 gross tons each, one from Cammell Laird Ltd., Birkenhead and the other from Verolme Cork Dockyard. These vessels are due for delivery in September, 1969 and February, 1970, respectively. I have no proposals before me at present for the acquisition of further vessels by the company. It is the company's practice when ordering new vessels to seek quotations from suitable dockyards including Irish dockyards.
