Vol. 239 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pension Appeal.

30.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when he expects a decision will be made on the appeal of a person (name supplied) in Clonmel for an old age pension; and the reason for the long delay in dealing with such appeals.

A decision granting 10s per week from the date on which the claimant attained the age of seventy years was given by an appeals officer. Before the decision was promulgated, however, it was represented to the Department that the claimant's means from wages had declined. Further enquiries which were then necessary were made through the local social welfare officer. The decision of the Appeals Officer was revised, as a result, on the 7th instant, when a pension of 55s was allowed as from the date the 10s was previously granted. Payment of outstanding pension is being made. In the circumstances I cannot accept the suggestion of undue delay in the Deputy's question.

So long as it came all right, I am satisfied.
