Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

9.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he is aware of the long-standing grievance of the residents of Cloonkeen, Castlerea, County Roscommon, caused by the failure of the ESB to supply electric current to this district; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have been informed by the Electricity Supply Board that part of the townland of Cloonkeen is in the board's Carraghs rural area in their Galway district and that the larger part of the townland is in the Kilkeevin rural area in their Sligo district.

Construction work under the rural electrification post-development scheme has commenced in the Carraghs rural area and should be completed in about seven weeks time. The Kilkeevin rural area is scheduled to be recanvassed under the rural electrification post-development scheme towards the end of this year. Construction work commences about six months after the recanvass and supply will be extended to all householders who accept the terms quoted and have their houses wired.

10.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when it is proposed to supply ESB current to a large number of applicants in the Killena area, County Wexford.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that Killena has been included in the board's Kilmuckridge rural area which is scheduled for recanvass under the rural electrification post-development scheme towards the end of the present year. Construction work commences about six months after the recanvass and supply will be extended to all householders who accept the terms quoted and have their houses wired.

11.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if in view of the long delay in the rural electrification of County Wexford the ESB will give priority to applications from farmers, cottiers and other rural applicants over applications from subscribers requiring current for seaside houses and chalets for summer months only.

I have been informed by the Electricity Supply Board that in developing rural areas, it is their policy to give priority to permanent residents subject to the need for organising the work in each rural area in an efficient and economic manner.

12.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when it is proposed to supply ESB current to the large number of applicants in the Ballythomas area of County Wexford.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that Ballythomas is in the board's Killaveney rural area which is scheduled for recanvass under the rural electrification post-development scheme towards the end of the present year. Construction work commences about 6 months after the recanvass and supply will be extended to all householders who accept the terms quoted and have their houses wired.
