Vol. 239 No. 5

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Kinnegad (Westmeath) Garda Station.

53.

asked the Minister for Finance when it is expected that building work will commence on the new Garda station at Kinnegad, County Westmeath.

A site has been acquired for a new Garda station at Kinnegad but it is not possible to say at this stage when construction work will commence.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware I got the very same answer about a year and a half ago, word for word, that the site had been acquired. When does the Parliamentary Secretary think he will be in a position to say when work will commence?

Yes, the site was acquired in 1967 but the Deputy must appreciate that there is a list of priorities involved.

Where is this project on the list of priorities?

I have not got that. It is a matter for the Department of Justice.

Kinnegad is assuming importance.

It is, and part of Athlone assumed importance for the Minister suddenly.
