Vol. 239 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rosslare Harbour Improvements.

8.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power if he has any plans for the improvement and extension of Rosslare Harbour to meet the increased traffic of passengers, the car ferry and cargo in that port.

Córas Iompair Éireann are responsible for the operation and maintenance of Rosslare Harbour. They have informed me that facilities at the harbour are adequate to cater for existing and expected passenger and car ferry traffic.

The provision of additional capacity by Normandy Ferries on their Rosslare/Le Havre service is expected to lead to a substantial increase in cargo traffic. In order to cater for this development CIE are about to commence work on the provision of a container compound at Rosslare. I understand that the compound is due to become operational in about two months.
