Vol. 239 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Sugar Company Post.

49.

asked the Minister for Finance whether there is any conflict of interest between the position of the managing director of a firm (name supplied) and his new posts as chairman of the Irish Sugar Company and a board member of Erin Foods, in view of the fact that his full-time employer is a major customer of the Sugar Company.

The recently appointed chairman of the Irish Sugar Company has been a director of that company since 1957. The position of chairman is part-time and non-executive. He is not a director of Erin Foods Ltd. I am satisfied that there is no conflict of interest between his position as chairman of the Sugar Company and his position as managing director of the firm mentioned by the Deputy.
