Vol. 239 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Amalgamation of Universities.

27.

Mr. T. O'Donnell, Mr. Jones, Mr. T. Dunne, Mr. P. Hogan

(South Tipperary) and Mr. Coughlan asked the Minister for Education if he will state in respect of the Commission on Higher Education, if it was requested by him not to consider the amalgamation of UCD and Trinity College on the grounds that the Government had already decided not to interfere with the status quo of Trinity College.

The answer is in the negative. The terms of reference laid down by the Minister for Education at the time of the appointment of the Commission on Higher Education are set out in the commission's report. These terms of reference placed no such limitations on the commission.
