Vol. 239 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pornographic Books and Films.

35.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is satisfied that an effective check is being kept on the importation of pornographic and subversive reading matter and films particularly into Dublin; and if any prosecutions have been made against persons engaged in such violation of the law in the past 12 months.

The Customs laws prohibit the importation of any indecent or obscene articles, including reading matter and films, as well as books and periodicals which have been banned by the Censorship Board. These restrictions are enforced by Customs personnel at Dublin and elsewhere and the situation is kept under review.

There have been no prosecutions in the past 12 months for offences related to these import prohibitions.
