Vol. 239 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Protection of Small Retailers.

50.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he has received from a shoe retailer (name supplied) in County Waterford a complaint that a shoe manufacturer has refused to supply him with his requirements unless he undertakes to purchase a number each year far beyond his requirements; and if in the circumstances with a view to protecting the interests of small traders against big combines he will refer the matter to the Fair Trade Commission or alternatively grant an import licence to the trader.

I have received a complaint from a shoe retailer in County Waterford that a manufacturer had refused to supply him on the grounds that his orders were not adequate to cover wholesaling expenses or to give a first class service to customers. I have referred the matter to the Fair Trade Commission for their consideration.

Questions No. 51 and No. 52 postponed.
