Vol. 239 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clonsilla (Dublin) Dispensary.

54.

asked the Minister for Health if he will make arrangements to have a dispensary held once a week in the parochial hall in Clonsilla, County Dublin.

The Dublin Health Authority has the primary responsibility for deciding on the location and frequency of dispensary sessions.

I understand from the Health Authority that they would not favour holding dispensary sessions in Clonsilla because of the very small number of eligible persons there, and the availability of a frequent bus service to the dispensary in Castleknock.

A dispensary depot was established in Clonsilla in 1960 but had to be closed down in 1962 because of the low attendances.

Is the Minister aware that this demand is being made by the Residents Association in Clonsilla? It is not confined to Clonsilla itself. Indeed, it should not be confined to the income group described by the Minister, the people who are entitled to general medical services. The mother and child service and the immunisation service are concerned, too. It is very important to the people concerned. There is no direct bus route to the present dispensary in Blanchardstown.

An average of three persons a day attended the sessions that had to be suspended in 1962.

1962 is a long time ago. There has been considerable development in the area since then.

Thanks to Fianna Fáil policy.

They had nothing whatever to do with this development, in fact.

Question No. 55 postponed.
