Vol. 239 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bord na Móna Pensions.

11.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power when he will sanction increases in Bord na Móna pensions.

I have recently, following consultation with the Minister for Finance, authorised certain pension increases for retired members of the Bord na Móna general employees scheme. The position of pensioners under the regular works scheme is under examination in conjunction with the Minister for Finance. I am not yet, however, in a position to announce a decision in the matter.

Will the decision include people who are already out on pension? Will it be retrospective to the date on which they retired or will it operate only for the future?

As far as I know, it will operate only for the future, but I should need to have notice of that question.

Perhaps the Parliamentary Secretary would let me know?

I will communicate with the Deputy.

When does the Parliamentary Secretary expect a decision on the remainder?

I could not say at this stage. There is a good deal of discussion to be done yet.

I could not give any idea. It is being discussed with the Minister for Finance.

The pensions at the moment are very small and the Parliamentary Secretary will, therefore, appreciate the urgency.

The matter will be finalised as speedily as possible.
