Vol. 239 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Westmeath Telephone Kiosk.

14.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will have a public telephone kiosk erected in Collinstown village, Mullingar, County Westmeath.

A telephone kiosk is not warranted at Collinstown.

Is the Minister aware that this village is over four miles from a Garda station? It is an important tourist area. Tourists do not as a rule come in from fishing until 10 o'clock or 11 o'clock at night and they find then there is no public telephone available. Would the Minister not have another look at the matter in view of the fact that this is a developing tourist area?

Areas in which kiosks are requested are subject to review. In this particular place there are four telephones, including two coin box lines, which are available to the public at all times in an emergency.

They may be available in an emergency if someone wants a veterinary surgeon or a doctor.
