Vol. 239 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Moy Drainage Scheme.

10.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that because of the Moy drainage, tractors are no longer able to cross the ford at Cloongoonagh, Tourlestrane, County Sligo to take turf off the adjoining bog; and if he will have a suitable ford provided, so that the people concerned will not be deprived of the rights which they formerly held.

It is intended to pave this ford as soon as conditions permit.

11.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that following the drainage of the Moy at Curraghboy, Tourlestrane, County Sligo, experience has shown that horses sink in the ford provided at Curraghboy; and if he will have the ford paved, as many people are unable to get their turf from the adjoining bog.

Arrangements are being made to have the ford at Curraghboy paved.

12.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will extend the Moy drainage scheme through the townlands of Montragh, Bunnaghcrannagh and Ballyglass in the parish of Curry, County Sligo to facilitate about forty farmers who have about 200 acres of arable land there which is subject to flooding.

No application has been received for an extension of the Moy drainage works through the town-lands of Montragh, Bunnaghcrannagh and Ballyglass. If an application is made it will be examined.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that I have already made an application? It is there.

No, I am not.

The Parliamentary Secretary should check. There is an application which I sent myself.

I am not aware of any application having been made but if there is one it will be dealt with.

The application is made.

It may not have arrived in the Office of Public Works yet but if it does arrive it will be examined like every other application.

13.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will name the extension of the Moy drainage scheme which it is proposed to carry out in County Sligo; and if further extensions may be made.

A large number of applications for extension of the Moy drainage works has been received. All of these will be examined before the scheme is completed.

The Parliamentary Secretary did not answer my question. I asked him to name the extensions to the Moy Scheme which it is proposed to carry out in County Sligo.

I do not think this would be possible by way of Parliamentary Question and reply. There are so many applications for extensions to this as well as to every other scheme that it would probably take the remainder of the afternoon to read them out.

I did not ask for the proposals at all. I asked for the extensions which it is proposed to carry out; in other words, the extensions already sanctioned.

The Deputy's question does not specifically ask for extensions already sanctioned. As he probably knows, as a scheme like this proceeds there is constant demand for additions and extensions to it. There is no such thing as an up-to-date list of extensions of this kind because they continue to come in all the time.
