Vol. 240 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Treatment of Drug Addicts.

asked the Minister for Justice if, in view of a statement made by a doctor (name supplied) inviting drug addicts to come in confidence for treatment, he will make a statement clarifying the position of such persons in relation to the law, and, in particular, whether they are liable to be prosecuted for being drug addicts.

Drug addiction is not a criminal offence and, accordingly, a person is not liable to prosecution for being a drug addict.
