Vol. 240 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Aran Island Pensioners.

68.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that people in receipt of old age pensions in the Aran Islands are compelled to pay the full fare on the Galway-Aran ferry service; and, if so, if he is prepared to facilitate them like pensioners on the mainland.

I understand Aran Island residents pay special reduced fares, applicable to islanders only, on the Galway-Aran ferry service. I presume, however, the Deputy has in mind the provision of completely free travel between Galway and Aran for pensioners who would be eligible for free travel on the mainland. I will have this suggestion examined.
