Vol. 240 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Valuations.

12.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that Kerry County Council appealed against the decision of the Commissioner of Valuations in not assigning a revised valuation to certain hereditaments in County Kerry; the legal basis for such an appeal; the number of decisions appealed by the council; on what basis the individual cases were selected; and whether other county councils did likewise.

A number of local authorities, including Kerry County Council, sought and obtained my sanction under section 1 of the Valuation of Rateable Property (Ireland) Act, 1864 to the making of appeals to the Commissioner of Valuation arising out of the 1969 annual revision of valuation. In the case of Kerry County Council 101 hereditaments were involved. The initiation of appeals is entirely a matter for the local authority.
