Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - UCG Research Projects.

asked the Minister for Education if he will consider the establishment of a data bank at University College, Galway with a view to co-ordinating research dealing with problems associated with the West of Ireland, particularly in view of the fact that a very considerable volume of research dealing with such problems is being carried out at this institution.

The question of establishing a data bank in University College, Galway, would be a matter for the college authorities. In this connection I am informed that there is already in the college a social science research centre which is inter-disciplinary with participation by the departments of economics, geography, political science and sociology. Most of the work of the centre is relevant to problems of the west of Ireland. In the science departments, likewise, many of the research projects are concerned with the natural resources of the west of Ireland, particularly marine resources.
