Vol. 240 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pensions.

29.

(Dublin South Central) asked the Minister for Social Welfare the number of old age pensioners who do not qualify for contributory pensions because they have not the necessary number of stamps.

There are some 109,000 persons aged 70 and over in receipt of non-contributory old age pensions. Of these 300 are entitled to lesser rates of old age (contributory) pension. The remaining 108,700 have either not claimed a contributory old age pension because they were aware that they could not satisfy the contribution conditions for pension or having claimed failed to so qualify.
