59.

asked the Minister for Lands (a) the area of land acquired by the Land Commission in County Mayo for the year ended 31st March, 1969; (b) the area distributed by the Land Commission in County Mayo for the same year; and (c) the area in the possession of the Land Commission in County Mayo on 31st March, 1969.

Returns of main Land Commission activities for the year ended 31st March, 1969, are as yet provisional. On this basis, replies to the three parts of the question are as follows:—(a) 3,700 acres, (b) 4,600 acres, (c) 5,800 acres.

60.

asked the Minister for Lands if there have been any developments in regard to the McGloin lands Greyfort, Attymass, Ballina, County Mayo since a reply of 27th March last; and if it is proposed to acquire these lands to enlarge adjacent small farms.

The Land Commission have decided to institute proceedings for the compulsory acquisition of this estate; the owner's solicitors have been notified accordingly and the relevant statutory notices will be published in due course. In the event of the lands being acquired, the claims of all deserving local applicants will be fully considered. As indicated in my reply to a previous question on 27th March last, the requirements of the Forestry Division will also be borne in mind.
