Vol. 240 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Cork Housing.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government the present position in regard to the building of local authority houses at Little Island and Glounthaune, County Cork; and if the lay-out plans have yet reached his Department.

I understand that the council are at present in the process of acquiring a site for housing at Little Island which is intended to cater for the housing need of Glounthaune also. Layout plans have not yet been received in my Department.

(Cavan): May I ask the Minister if Little Island is an island so called, that is, a piece of land surrounded by water?

I do not think so.

(Cavan): If it were, I would suggest that Deputy Martin Corry might take steps to have a bridge erected.

When my colleague, the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, opens Valentia Bridge, we shall think about the next one.

(Cavan): I would suggest to the Minister that he might ask Deputy Corry to open Valentia Bridge.

Oh, no. My colleague, the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries, will open that one.

——and pay for some of the abnormal cost of the bridge.
