Vol. 240 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballymun (Dublin) Amenity Centre.

14.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will make a statement on the proposed amenity centre at the Ballymun housing and flats estate.

Terms for the leasing of a site for a comprehensive shopping and service development within the area of the Ballymun housing estate have been agreed between the Dublin Corporation and a development company. The scheme provides for the construction of shops, supermarkets, department stores, offices, showrooms, licensed premises, petrol filling stations, entertainment facilities and storage accommodation in a total area of 168,000 square feet.

Work on the project commenced on the 1st September, 1968, and is due to be completed in a period of 30 months from that date. Some building units, including a supermarket and bank, have been completed and are now open for business.

Sites have been reserved within the shopping centre for a clinic to replace the temporary clinic already provided and for a garda station. A further site has been reserved in the centre for the construction of a swimming pool and community hall.
