Vol. 240 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Obscene Literature.

53.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is satisfied that the present control of the entry of undesirable and obscene literature and publications into this country is sufficient.

The customs laws prohibit the importation of any indecent or obscene literature as well as books and periodicals which have been banned by the Censorship Board. I am satisfied that these restrictions are properly enforced by customs personnel.

Do you really believe that? Have you read any of them?

Does the Deputy believe that I disbelieve it?

I believe that what you are saying is not true because they are being bought.

If the Deputy is very diligent in seeking out indecent literature, perhaps, he will be able to find it.
