Vol. 240 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New National Schools.

58.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the erection of the new national school at Aghart, The Glen, Ballinskelligs, County Kerry.

Sketch-plans for the new national school at Glen have been prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works and my Department is at present in communication with the reverend manager's solicitor regarding the production of evidence of title to the site. Immediately satisfactory evidence of title is furnished my Department will sanction the grant towards the cost of the erection of the new school.

The further arrangements, leading to the invitation of tenders and the placing of the contract, will then be a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works.

59.

asked the Minister for Education if he will give details of his Department's proposals for the replacement of Newtown national school, Ballymacarberry, Clonmel, County Tipperary, with particular reference to the scope, size and siting of the proposed new school; and when he expects the work to be completed.

A suitable site, situated near the existing school, has been offered for the proposed new central school at Newtown and preliminary sketch plans for the building have been prepared by the manager's architect. They are at present being examined in the Office of Public Works.

The new building will contain six classrooms as well as a general purposes room and will cater for the pupils from the existing Newtown, Bennets-church, Glenanore and Croughclooney schools.

The arrangements in regard to the erection of the school have not yet reached a stage where it would be possible to say when the work will be completed.
