Vol. 241 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Evaluation of Job Opportunities.

129.

asked the Minister for Education what progress has been made with the evaluation of job opportunities for new entrants to the labour market promised by his predecessor 15 months ago; and whether this guide to job opportunities will be available as promised within 18 months of its announcement last year.

The complexity of what was involved was such that it was decided that it should form the subject of a major research project. This project is at present being carried out by Metra Consulting Group, Ltd. (London). It is the intention that it will be completed within 10 months.

As announced by my predecessor on 30th May last, the object of the project is to establish a continuous information system of manpower demandsupply forecasting and to devise an adaptive model which will handle this information and give revised and updated forecasts on which decisions in relation to the manpower requirements and job opportunities could be assessed.

Does this mean that the promise of the Minister's predecessor will not be honoured?

I cannot find this particular promise.

I agree it must be difficult to find all the promises but this was the first promise made by the Minister's predecessor in Trinity College immediately after his appointment.
