Vol. 241 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - NIEC Report.

31.

asked the Minister for Finance what steps the Government have taken to date to implement the recommendation of NIEC as contained in Paragraph 61 of Report No. 11, 1965, that it might be desirable that information on wages and salaries should be supplemented by adequate information about other personal incomes.

32.

asked the Minister for Finance if the Government accepts and is prepared to implement Paragraph 57 of the NIEC Report No. 11, 1965, that a necessary step for bringing profits within the ambit of a national incomes policy is that adequate information be made available promptly on the aggregate profits of both public and private companies and of unincorporated firms in the various sectors and industries in the economy.

I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to take Questions Nos. 31 and 32 together.

The Government have accepted in Chapter 12 of the Third Programme for Economic and Social Development that the publication of more information on company profits is desirable. As indicated in that chapter, an examination of proposals for improving statistical services generally is at present being carried out by a committee on statistical requirements and priorities. As part of that examination the committee is giving attention to the possibility of providing more up-todate information on profits. The committee will also consider the question of improving the quality and timing of statistics relating to aggregate personal incomes other than wages and salaries.
