Vol. 241 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Industrial Estate.

65.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give details of any proposals for the establishment of further industries at the industrial estate, Pottery Road, Dún Laoghaire.

I am aware of one proposal for the establishment of an industrial undertaking at the estate mentioned. This is from Becton Dickinson & Co., Rutherford, New Jersey, USA, a leading firm in the medical-surgical products field, and is for the manufacture of sterile disposable hypodermic syringes and needles. As I indicated at a press conference on June 11th, 1969, a new work force of 676 (396 men and 280 women) is to be employed in the manufacture of these products at Drogheda and Dún Laoghaire. The company is already established at Drogheda in the production of these items and is employing about 400. The total work force of 1,076 will be equally divided between the two places.
