Vol. 241 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Investment in Franchise Schemes.

90.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he can supply any information about the bona fides of a company (name supplied) which has been advertising for people in this country to invest in franchise schemes under which they are offered the exclusive rights to sell a particular product in their local area.

While I have received no complaints about the operations of this company, I understand that the first directors were associated with various business ventures in Britain, some of which resulted in losses for persons investing in them. I suggest that, because of the unhappy experience of small investors in other countries in connection with franchise schemes of the sort described, prospective investors should establish the bona fides of the promoters before participating in such schemes.
