Vol. 241 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Insurance.

26.

asked the Minister for Local Government if in view of the serious position in regard to motor car insurance and the refusal of a number of companies to take motor insurance he will state what plans, if any, he has to remedy this situation.

The information available to me does not indicate that the situation is as the Deputy suggests. If, however, the Deputy cares to give me particulars of cases where difficulties have been encountered in obtaining motor insurance, I will have them investigated.

The Minister may not be aware that some companies are refusing to take motor insurance and that others are refusing to take drivers under 30. Has he anything in mind with regard to rectifying that position which, if it is allowed to go on, will affect the motor market as well as the trade in general?

No. I have no information that that is so but, if the Deputy gives me particulars of companies which he alleges are refusing to take insurance, I will have them investigated.
