Vol. 241 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cruelty to Animals.

34.

asked the Minister for Justice what steps he proposes to take in the light of condemnations by the Christian churches of cruelty and suffering inflicted on animals for sport.

I appreciate the views expressed by the Church representatives in question but before I could contemplate taking any steps I would require to be satisfied that the great body of the electorate, including a majority of the Dáil, look with disfavour on coursing, hunting, shooting and so on.

I have had no indication whatsoever that would lead me to suppose that such is the case.
