Vol. 241 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shannon Pleasure Craft.

55.

asked the Minister for Transport and Power whether he is aware that a firm (name supplied) have decided to provide pleasure craft on the Shannon; and that they will avail of grants for this venture; whether there is any differentiation between grants given to such established firms and those given to new ventures.

The giving of financial assistance for the development of recreational and other facilities for tourists is a function of Bord Fáilte under the Tourist Traffic Acts. In discharging this function, the board operate a scheme of priming and development grants to encourage investment in enterprises providing recreation for visitors.

I am informed by Bord Fáilte that the Shannon pleasure craft operation to which the Deputy refers is a new venture by a recently established company. I am also informed that developers interested in such operations and who are willing to meet the requirements of Bord Fáilte are considered for assistance without differentiation between established concerns and new ones.
