Vol. 241 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Housing Schemes.

24.

asked the Minister for Local Government if a tender for the building of 40 houses at Lansdowne, Cork, was submitted to him by Cork Corporation on the 2nd July, 1969, and has not yet been sanctioned; and, if so, when sanction may be expected.

Such proposal was submitted to me and is under consideration. A decision on it will be given as soon as possible.

25.

asked the Minister for Local Government the cause of the delay in commencing work on the new housing scheme at Skibbereen, County Cork.

A proposal to provide 8 houses at Glencurragh, Skibberen, was approved, in principle, on 25th August last. Information on the house-type to be used and the sewerage facilities for the scheme is at present awaited by my Department.

In view of the long delay in providing these houses, will the Minister sanction their building immediately, to get them completed before the winter?

I am awaiting information on the house-type and the sewerage proposals.

Is it not a fact that every housing scheme in County Cork is held up in the same way? We are awaiting sanction and spending our time going up and down between the Cork County Council and the Department of Local Government. Is it not time this should stop and that we should be allowed to get down to building the houses?

This scheme is not awaiting sanction.
