Vol. 241 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin County Council Records.

16.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that the accounting and records of Dublin County Council are in such a state that persons who pay to the Council the full sums due in respect of principal and interest on housing loans receive demands for many subsequent months for payment of instalments of housing loan repayments which are not due; and if he will ask the Local Government Auditor to investigate and take remedial action in the matter.

The administration of loans and grants schemes is primarily a matter for the local authority concerned. I have, however, not been satisfied with certain aspects of the administration of their scheme by Dublin County Council. I have sanctioned certain staffing proposals put to me by the authority which should improve the position. I have also taken up with the council some features which need early attention. The matters now raised by the Deputy will be borne in mind in connection with my review of the situation.
