Vol. 241 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Landlord and Tenant Law.

33.

asked the Minister for Justice if he proposes to introduce legislation based on the report of the Landlord and Tenant Commission which recommended that further classes of tenants should be given the right to buy out their landlords.

The answer is "Yes". I hope to bring my detailed proposals for legislation based on the commission's recommendations before the Government in the near future.

Is the Minister aware that considerable anxiety is felt by lease holders in the town of Ceanannus Mór who wish to buy out their ground rents? Will they be covered by this legislation?

I have examined specifically the position of certain lease holders in Ceanannus Mór and elsewhere, and I can assure the Deputy that the rights of these lease holders to purchase the fee simple will be put beyond doubt when the new legislation comes before the Dáil.
