Vol. 241 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Customs Examinations on Car Ferries.

38.

asked the Minister for Finance if, with a view to expediting the clearance of cars on disembarkation from car ferries, he will arrange for customs officers to travel on the ferries for the purpose of carrying out examinations en route; and, if not, why.

Because of legal and practical difficulties it would not be possible to give effect to this suggestion at present. However, as the House is aware, the Revenue Commissioners are constantly seeking ways of clearing passengers and goods more quickly through the customs and will continue to make every effort to facilitate the clearance of car ferry traffic.
