Vol. 241 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition and Division.

83.

asked the Minister for Lands if there are any proposals for the acquisition and division of the estate of a person (name supplied) at Brackagh, Tuam, County Galway.

84.

asked the Minister for Lands if there are any proposals for the acquisition and division of the estate of a person (name supplied) at Clough, Gurteen, Ballinasloe, County Galway.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to take questions Nos. 83 and 84 together. The Land Commission have no proceedings for the acquisition of either of these holdings—but they are looking into the matter. I understand that the circumstances of these cases may be such as not to warrant compulsory action by the Land Commission.

85.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the lands of the Kelly estate, Killaderry, Daingean, County Offaly.

Composite resale proposals are envisaged for this 133acre estate and other properties in the locality containing 138 acres which have also been acquired by the Land Commission. As yet I am unable to say when the combined area will be allotted but I understand that every effort is being made to ensure that as much as possible of the lands are included in next year's allocation programme.

86.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the lands of the McNally estate, Rhode, County Offaly; and if it is expected that this estate will be divided and allotted during the coming spring.

The formulation of plans for the division of this 249acre estate and another property contraining 90 acres which has been acquired by the Land Commission in the same townland is proceeding as rapidly as possible. Just now it is not feasible to indicate when the lands will be ready for allotment.

Would the Minister consider recommending to the Land Commission that the local smallholders be favourably considered in this matter?

I will communicate the Deputy's wishes in this regard to the inspector in charge.

87.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the lands of the Coman estate, Clonbrown, Clonbulloge, Tullamore, County Offaly; and if it is expected that this estate will be divided and allotted during the coming spring.

It is hoped that the lands on this estate, comprising 62 acres, will be allotted next spring.

88.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the lands of the Carroll estate, Mountbolus, Tullamore, County Offaly.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the 170 acre estate of the late Mrs. Mary Dunne (née Carroll) part of which is near Mountbolus. The position is that proceedings for compulsory acquisition of this property have reached the stage where, in default of agreement, the price is being fixed and published. The relevant price fixation notice will be published and served on the interested parties at an early date—and it will then be open to them to lodge an appeal if they so desire. Pending determination of the price factor it is not possible to forecast what the outcome of the proceedings may be.

In view of the fact that there are a lot of smallholders in this area would the Minister make every effort to facilitate those people and would he endeavour to have the land paid for in cash instead of land bonds in this instance?

As the Deputy is aware, the actual price has not yet been agreed between the Land Commission and the vendor and it is possible that the Land Commission might withdraw if the price fixed is considered to be too high but, assuming that does not happen, I shall pass on the Deputy's recommendations regarding payment by cash.

89.

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to divide the lands of the Howard estate, Belmont, County Offaly.

This 121 acre property did not come into the possession of the Land Commission until last March; as yet it is too early to indicate when allotment will be feasible but the necessary inquiries on the ground will be carried out as soon as possible.

90.

asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission have acquired the Mannion estate, Kilcooly, Strokestown, County Roscommon; and when it is proposed to allot it.

Possession of this 34 acre holding has passed to the Land Commission. Pending completion of the necessary inquiries on the ground, it is not possible to forecast just now when a scheme of division can be planned.
