Vol. 242 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Beef Export Guarantee Scheme.

10.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries what amounts have been paid by his Department to export meat firms and to farmers under the beef export guarantee scheme during each of the first and second halves of each of the financial years 1967-68 to date.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to circulate with the Official Report a table setting out the information requested. The amounts of the support payments, of course, fluctuate according to fluctations in the quantities exported and in the market prices obtained.

Following is the statement:

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he is aware that there is grave disquiet within the meat export trade and the farming community because of his decision not to pass on the full benefit of the trade agreement with England; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to a Question on this subject on 15th April, 1969. The increase in March last in the level of prices on which the beef export support payments had previously been calculated will increase the cost of the export support in the current financial year by about £1.5 million.
