Vol. 242 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of Cow-Byre Grant.

12.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if persons who have received a grant in respect of a cow-byre can qualify for a grant in respect of modern cow-cubicles; and, if not, if he will consider introducing amending legislation to provide for such modernising facilities.

Persons who have received a grant under the farm buildings scheme in respect of a cow-byre can qualify for a grant in respect of new housing with cow-cubicles, provided the total accommodation is justified by the number of cows kept or expected to be kept. The rates of grants per cow for housing with cow-cubicles and for cow-byres are on a sliding scale. The appropriate rate of grant depends on the cow accommodation which has already been grant-aided on the holding.
