As I indicated in my reply to Questions 49 to 53 on 23rd October last, the Government intend to review the present arrangements regarding income tax and corporation profits tax in relation to building societies. This review will also cover the question of increases by building societies in interest rates. Pending completion of the review, I am not in a position to elaborate on the subject. I may add that I have had no recent discussions with the societies.
So the reports in the paper were not really true?
