Vol. 242 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Departmental Annual Report.

45.

asked the Minister for Local Government why the annual reports from his Department are not issued within a reasonable time after the expiry of the year to which they refer.

A very large part of the annual report of my Department is made up of statistics of the operations of local authorities. While in many cases estimates of these statistics are available at a much earlier stage, the material for inclusion in the annual report cannot be completed for printing until such time as all local authorities have forwarded the necessary statistics in final form. Consideration is at present being given to the reorganisation of the form and content of the annual report so as to enable it to be made available at an earlier date.
