Vol. 242 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - British Import Deposit Scheme.

63.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if a date has yet been fixed for the proposed meeting with the British authorities to discuss the extension of their import deposit scheme.

The matter will be discussed at the meeting of the Anglo-Irish economic committee at official level, which is to take place on Thursday and Friday of this week. As I indicated in reply to questions on the 28th October, this meeting will be followed by a further meeting at Ministerial level.

Will the Minister be present at this meeting?

I will be present at the meeting of Ministers which will take place early next month, but the official meeting this week will be a meeting of civil servants.

Have the Government already protested to the British Government over a second flagrant breach of this trade agreement?

Yes. I regret the Deputy was not in the Dáil when we were discussing this a couple of weeks ago.
