Vol. 242 No. 4

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Training School for Nurses.

5.

asked the Minister for Health when he proposes to have a training centre for nurses provided at Castlebar county hospital, County Mayo, as it is becoming a general hospital.

The question of the establishment of a training school for nurses at the County Hospital, Castlebar, is a matter, in the first instance, for the Mayo County Council. My Department has been informed by the council that, following correspondence with An Bord Altranais and consideration of the matter by the local consultative health committee, the subject will be placed before a meeting of the county council which will be held about mid-December.

If and when proposals are submitted to my Department they will receive full consideration.

Would the Minister state at what stage they will be prepared to take those students nurses in Castlebar hospital?

That is a matter in the first instance for Mayo County Council, of which the Deputy is a member.
