asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of dwelling houses provided annually by (a) State and State agencies and (b) private effort over the past five years and if he is in a position to give comparable figures for Northern Ireland.

The information requested in the first part of the question is set out in the statement below. The information sought in the second half of the question is available in the Housing Return for Northern Ireland published by the Ministry of Development.

Agencies included under the title State and State agencies are local authorities and the National Building Agency Ltd. Dwellings, averaging about 250 a year, and provided by the Land Commission, Departments of Health and Defence, the Office of Public Works and the Shannon Free Airport Development Company Ltd., are also included in this category.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the comparative provision of new dwelling units, on population basis, as between various members of the OECD.

I would refer the Deputy to Appendix V of the White Paper Housing in the Seventies which I issued last June.
